What is Immunoglobulin G (IgG)?

Immunoglobulin G

Immunoglobulins, also known as antibodies, are huge part of our humoral immune response. These antibodies are released by B lymphocytes from the lymphatic system. There are five immunoglobulins produced that help with our immune health. Immunoglobulin G (IgG) is the most abundant antibody in the body, making up about 75-80% of the antibodies in our blood. These IgG molecules have antigen binding sites that specifically bind to viruses, bacteria, fungi and toxins. This helps our phagocytic or “cell eating”  immune cells recognize and ingest these pathogens.

Ortho Molecular IgG Protect

IgG Protect’s pure and high-concentration formula provides improved immune modulation and strengthens the gut-immune barrier. Consistency in potency and purity of colostrum extracts is a primary concern for clinicians; advanced filtration and purification techniques make IgG Protect a superior clinical tool. IgG Protect provides 2,000 mg of IgG and 4 g of protein per serving. This product is great for those who do not have any dairy intolerance!

INGREDIENT BENEFITS

Broad-Range Specificity Immunoglobulins

Research has shown that IgG can be effective in neutralizing pathogenic organisms found in the gastrointestinal tract. Colostrum not only contains high quantities of IgG, but also several factors that may positively impact the immune system. Many studies note the use of bovine colostrum to enhance passive immunity to prevent immune challenges, especially when entering by way of the gastrointestinal tract.

Lactoferrin

Lactoferrin, which is naturally occurring in IgG Protect, is an iron-binding glycoprotein, that facilitates iron absorption and protects against harmful microorganisms. Lactoferrin modulates cytokine release, and its receptors have been found on many immune cells, including lymphocytes, monocytes, macrophages and platelets.

Proline-Rich-Peptides (PRPs)*

PRPs are signaling peptides produced by activated macrophages and the T cells that control the production of all cytokines. PRPs have the unique ability to modulate the immune system by increasing activity level in case of certain challenges and decreasing activity level when health is maintained. PRPs are the main regulators of cell protein synthesis and convey appropriate cell functions.

Growth Factors*

Growth factors in colostrum extract, including several growth factors, such as insulin-like growth factor -1 and 2 (IGF-1 and IGF-2) and transforming growth factor-beta 2 (TGF-β2) function to stimulate the growth of the gut. They have also been shown to affect rates of protein synthesis, protein degradation and DNA synthesis. In addition, TGF -β2 may be beneficial in reducing gut permeability and enhancing cell rejuvenation.

Sialic Acid*

Sialic acid is an essential component of glycoproteins, which may function to influence brain growth, enhance learning ability and memory formation. Sialic acid has been shown to assist in enhancing synaptic pathways. It may also prevent the attachment of specific organisms to host tissue and assist in immune regulation when necessary.

Ortho Molecular SBI Protect

SBI Protect is the only purified, dairy-free source of immunoglobulin G (IgG) available as a dietary supplement. Pure IgG helps to maintain a healthy intestinal immune system by binding a broad ranges of microbes and toxins within the gut lumen. The discovery that the gut barrier plays a key role in immune health fueled the search to strengthen it. In that search, researchers found that the binding capabilities of immunoglobulins have a positive effect on gut barrier function. Immunoglobulins bind microbes and toxins in the GI tract and eliminate them prior to immune system activation. As these unwanted triggers are removed, it resets healthy immune tolerance and builds a stronger barrier to the external environment.

INGREDIENT BENEFITS

SBI and GI Health

SBI has been shown to bind microbes and toxins, further enhancing microbiome balance and facilitating gut barrier strength. Broad-spectrum binding capabilities demonstrate the positive influence of nonallergenic forms of immunoglobulins. As seen in several studies, SBI has the potential to bind many types of microbes and toxins. This binding and elimination decreases microbe and toxin encounters by the immune system and resets immune tolerance.

SBI and Immune Health

In studies evaluating the effect of SBI on immune function, subjects showed positive outcomes in several areas, including inflammatory balance, gut barrier function and immune cell counts. In an open-label human clinical study, GI-challenged patients were given 2.5 mg SBI twice daily. They had increased CD4+ counts in the duodenum after eight weeks, indicating a regenerative effect on the tissue and immune function in the intestines.
